The Heinrich Böll Foundation (Heinrich Böll Stiftung) together with Memorial (Moskou) are organising another European Historical Forum. This year the Forum will evolve around the theme: What brings us together, what separates us? European memories about fleeing and expulsion in the 20th century. Considering the current refugee crisis a very relevant and interesting theme. So far a number of interesting speakers will be attending the Conference including: Aleida Assmann (Universität Konstanz), Irina Sherbakova (Memorial, Moskou), Gulnara Bekirowa (Political Scientist, TV-producer, Kiev) and Stefan Troebst (Universität Leipzig).

The Forum will address three main questions:

  1. How can memory allowed and simultaneously conciliation promote – what will be remembered and what not?
  2. What have been the political and legal approaches in recent decades to deal with suffered injustice, to bring compensation for losses and to make the necessary adjustments for the new reality today?
  3. Which new (historical) identities occur in the target countries (Zielländern): what history and what historical lessons connect people, whether they are fleeing, displaced or home?

The language of the Conference will be German, English and Russian.

More information will follow soon on their website. Until then… save the date!
