Aims
  • Provide opportunities for cross-community Cypriot dialogue and partnership;
  • Develop a local team from all the ethnic groups of Cyprus, across the divide, which takes responsibility to co-operate and create innovative and appropriate teacher support, supplementary materials;
  • Offer professional development and training opportunities in Cyprus- with strong local participation and international expert input, an based on the theme of interculturalism and diversity, respect, tolerance and social justice;
  • Strengthen and support the professionalisation of the local history teachers associations and build opportunities for on-going links and dialogue.

Expected outcomes
  • A network of educators with enhanced professional development which has a strong bond within the group, which has mutual understanding and which is prepared to continue links and co-operation across ‘the divide’
  • Increased professionalism of the project core group organising the 16th Annual EUROCLIO 2009 Conference Taking the Perspective of the Other: Intercultural Dialogue and History Teaching
  • An empowered active group of history educators across the divide willing to take part and share their experiences during the 16th EUROCLIO Annual Conference 2009

The seminar  turned out a great success as it was attended by 90 participants across the divide. It aimed to offer professional capacity building based on the theme of inter-culturalism and diversity, respect, tolerance and social justice, critical use of heritage, to provide international training by experienced consultants of a wide group of history educators including the team members and to explore opportunities for cross-community Cypriot dialogue and partnership. It also aimed to strengthen the existing local network and NGO team from all the ethnic groups of Cyprus, across the divide, which takes responsibility to co-operate and create innovative and appropriate teacher support, supplementary materials and to strengthen and support the professionalization of Cypriot history educators Associations and build opportunities for on-going links and dialogue.
