Romania: Fostering History and Citizenship
|
Aims
- To support the new curriculum and to enhance the understanding and meaning of this curriculum for the learning and teaching of history in Romania;
- To emphasis the new curriculum values, such as tolerance, mutual understanding, and democratic attitudes, and scrutinizing, but not abandoning Romanian traditional values;
- To set up and strengthen a History Teachers’ Association in Romania;
- To develop ready to use teaching materials on appropriate historical topics, offering new methodological approaches;
- To train history educators to implement new materials and methodology into classroom practice and supporting them to train and mentor teachers in their localities;
- To train history educators according the rules of the Accreditation Commission;
- To establish local training branches to act as support centers for history education;
- To strengthen and extend the network of innovative pilot schools connected to the Center Education 2000+.
Activities
- Six development and training seminars for 50 history educators from a variety of regions in Romania;
- Three Annual Meetings of the newly established History Teachers Association APIR-CLIO with the participation of approximately 100 history educators;
- Development of a history and civics teaching resource pack;
- A Close up Conference, bringing together the results of the project;
- Active monitoring;
- Participation in international events on the learning and teaching of history.
