VGN-HTEN-EUROCLIO Conference
Professional Teaching History: UK and Dutch Perspectives (June 2007)Countries: Great Britan and The Netherlands Period: 22-24 June 2007 Budget: € 15.762 Main Sponsor: Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Main aims/outcomes: In june 2007, EUROCLIO, VGN–the Dutch History Teacher’s Association, and HTEN–the History Teacher Education Network in Great Britan organized a seminar in cooperation with the Graduate School of Teaching and Learning, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. 40 history educators participated in the Conference, mostly from the Netherlands and the UK, but also from Ireland, Belgium, the USA, Malta and Bulgaria.

Teacher resource book in three languages, 5 development seminars, 15 teacher training seminars, 1000 teachers and teacher trainers trained, strong and active history teachers associations, lasting influence on curricula, assessment, textbook development and teacher training.

Enhancing Regional History Education and Civic Society, common approaches for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and the Federation of Serbia and MontenegroCountries: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, the Federation of Serbia and Montenegro Period: 2004-2005 Budget: € 780.232,- Main sponsor: Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aims/Outcomes: Development of innovative regional teaching materials and the strengthening, democratisation and professionalisation of the national History Teachers Associations of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia. Innovative materials for teaching history from a regional perspective, an extended and strengthened network of academic historians and history educators in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia united in independent history teachers’ organisations.

2003: Yugoslavia stability
Stability Pact Project To promote and support the development of a Regional History Education Network in Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia, which strengthens Peace, Stability and Democracy.Countries: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Federation of Serbia-Montenegro Period: 2003 Budget: € 132.845,- Main sponsor: Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aims/Outcomes: This project has resulted in the foundation of new professional history teachers associations in Bosnia and Croatia, a developing network of history educators, the willingness to cooperate between the three countries, concrete proposals for future cooperation and projects.

2005-2008: Former Yugoslavia
History in Action – Planning for the Future. Regional Approach for the Learning and Teaching of History in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and SerbiaCountries: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia Period: 2005-2008 Budget: € 644.803,- Main sponsor: Matra Programme, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aims/Outcomes; A project enhancing the quality of history education in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro and make it contribute to reconciliation. The most important results are an innovative regional Teacher Resource Book for teaching history, available in three languages in each school in the region, reinforced democratic skills and practice in history education, and hundreds of history teachers trained in innovative content and teaching methods.

Outcomes: Teacher resource book in 4 languages, 4 development seminars, 6 development meetings, 9 teacher training seminars ca. 300 teachers and teacher trainers trained, regional network of history educators, active history teachers associations, lasting influence on curricula, textbooks and teacher training.
