The group of 50 Authors and Experts from all over Turkey gathered for the fourth consecutive Authors and Experts Workshop on Assessment in the Learning and Teaching of History workshop, this time held in the green Ilgaz Mountains, 300km north of Ankara on July 8-11 2010. This was the second workshop after the activity in Bolu in March 2010, where newly developed innovative history teaching material was presented, assessed and received feed-forward by the group. The main topic was (formative) assessment, and the leading expert Mr Jerome Freeman gave a solid presentation about the usage of APP in England and an active workshop about how to use the levels of attainment framework. The presented activities had visibly improved, but more vital, a growing sense of ownership of the process could be seen. This group process had been stressed more during this workshops, as all meals were coordinated to be had commonly and more space was put in the programme for participants to interact and share their experiences and expertise actively. A full report of the workshop will be available in August. |

The Third Authors’ and Experts’ Workshop of the EUROCLIO/Matra project ‘A Key to Europe: Innovative Methodology in Turkish School History’ hosted over 60 history educators in the mountain town of Kizilcahamam, Turkey between 12-14 March. The event showcased workshops focusing on developed materials within the project framework, with a focus on active learning, ICT and peer-review of materials and workshop approaches by both regional and international experts. After one year of the project, the event was an important insight into how far the project had come with regards to meeting the project aims. The project management team and academic advisors were able to identify the successes and remaining challenges with regards to activities and materials. The event was another chance for the History Educators Association of Turkey to present their new website and appeal to new members in the Ankara region with a teacher-training seminar held on March 11th, kindly sponsored by Gazi Education faculty at Gazi University. The event was a success, with an additional 30 teachers receiving ICT and active workshop training. After discussion between participants and expert analysis concluding Kizilcahamam, it became clear that there is now a need to focus on assessment for the upcoming workshop, held in Kastamonu Ilgaz, Turkey between 9th -11th July. The appropriate expert has been identified by the project management team and will join the authors and experts network in the project to continue the encouraging work being done so far in developing material. For a full report of the event, please download the workshop report.
