In 2009, a project named “The Role of Education as a Means to Reconciliation in Societies experiencing Social and Political Conflict” was launched. The aim of the project is create dialogue on the role that education plays in creating reconciliation, with the Kurdish issue as the case in point. From 19-21 June 2010, a symposium on this project will be held in Istanbul, where the issues of peace building and reconciliation in post-conflict societies, as well as the role that education plays in this will be emphasized. The dialogue in this symposium will include case studies from various countries. Workshops and lectures will be presented by representatives from History in Action, as well as EU¬ROCLIO Executive-Director Joke van der Leeuw-Roord. |

The fourteenth World Congress of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies will be held at Bogazici University, Istanbul from 14-18 June 2010. The aim of the congress is to provide scholars from various fields (social sciences, politics, civil society and education) with a platform to discuss and share their expertise. Distinguished scholars from around the world will present papers in English, French Turkish and local languages that are spoken in Turkey. The department for Academic History Teacher Training of the Leuven University organises a Workshop on the theme "The Relation between Present and Past in History Education" on May 4th 2010 at the Faculty of Arts, Leuven University in Belgium. During the workshop the various ways in which past and present relate to each other in classroom practice will be explored. The participants will have the possibility to get a better insight into their own history teaching preferences and practices. The course material will deal with two themes: the Crusades and the Holocaust.

CiCe Fifth Annual Research Student Conference takes place this year in Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain on 19-20 May 2010. The Conference will focus on the theme "New Researchers for the New Europe: Lifelong Learning and Active Citizenship"
What is the CiCe Research Student Conference?
The conference provides an opportunity for research students to:
- present papers to an audience of fellow research students and get feed-back
- participate in sessions on the research process and to discuss research issues with experienced and active researchers
- help develop a network of contacts

On 19th, 20th and 21st November, Stakeholders from across Europe, North Africa and the Mediterranean region will convene in Alicante, Spain for a 3 day Conference on North-South Dialogue, “Education and Migration.” The conference, hosted by The European Movement International brings together actors from both shores on the double theme of Education and Migration in order to analyse experiences of citizens from the South and the North. The aim of the Congress is to define a line of conduct in these fields, starting from your experiences and this in the prospective of a larger cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean. Amongst the key speakers will be representatives of EUROCLIO partner organizations such as the Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation, Municipal representatives of Valencia and its surrounding area, EU Commissioners, Mr. José Riera, Spanish Ambassador for Mediterranean Affairs, Ministers in Education in Morrocco and Algeria, Mr. Pat Cox, Former President of the European Parliament and President of European Movement International and Vice-President of the European Movement International, ALESCO and Islamic Educational, Scientic and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO). With themes of migration so prevalent in EUROCLIO’s work in history education, particularly with current running projects Past, The Future of Europe and Discovering Diversity, the conference will be an opportunity to discuss the role of migration in history education and lobby for a more active political community in addressing history education in the Euro-Med region.
