The Integration of Society in Latvia
|
Aims
- To provoke a wide and constructive public debate about the integration of society
- To promote mutual understanding and tolerance, and to battle stereotypes, prejudices and myths
- To provide history teachers with materials, tools and skills how to explore different interpretations and viewpoints
- To connect education, public debate and society on the topic of integration of society
- To raise interest and appreciation for people from other groups in society
Activities
- To develop an innovative teacher resource book on controversial issues of modern history, containing ready to use classroom materials for history educators in Latvia
- The teacher resource book is developed by a group of authors representing both the Latvian and the Russian speaking part of population
- The authors group is supported by a resource and resonance group of experts from relevant institutions like Universities, teacher training institutions, government, and bodies dealing with the integration of society
- The process is supported and its results disseminated by Round Table meetings attended by teachers, politicians, journalists, officials, academicians and other relevant people
- The teacher resource book is disseminated to history teachers by teacher training seminars in different parts of Latvia
- There will be extensive cooperation with a similar project in Latvia to exchange knowledge, experience and solutions
- A book will be published to disseminate the results and outcomes of the project
