"Developments in history education which we have done during 2004 is now ended by new elections and government changing in north Cyprus. They collected all Cyprus history textbooks which is used in schools during last 5 years and wrote new Cyprus History textbooks which has absolutely different point of views from others. In new books, positive learning is definitely prevented . Intensive chauvinism is supporting in these new books and ` others` idea is the mainly pointing. These are the results of our researches about new Cyprus History Textbooks: a- They are written in a way that is not open to multi perspectivity. Only one point of view is studied without pointing other ideas and facts. b- Preventing students to gain multi perspective view c- Not pointing interaction between different cultures and how national events effected by other conditions. d- Texts in the books takes sides, events are written in one point of view, including national comments, racialist approaches to history and specific ethnic groups, simplifying and generalizing the comments about nations or sexuality.
We shared our wide report with press, government, political parties, and commission members who wrote new textbooks. However we didn’t get any answer or reaction to our critical report until today. We are continuously writing articles to newspaper s in North Cyprus about this subject to keep it in agenda. " |
