Former Yugoslavia: History in Action

The Erasmus EuroMedia Country Medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Erasmus EuroMedia European Seal of Approval for outstanding media publications that deal with European values has been awarded to the innovative collaborative history teaching textbook "Ordinary People in an Extraordinary Country-, Everyday life in Bosnia, Croatia, and Serbia,  1945-1990 Yugoslavia between East and West". The book is published in Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian and English and is available free of charge. The publication was the result of the EUROCLIO Project History in Action- Planning for the Future financed by the Dutch and Danish Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The project brought together historians and history educators from 3 countries from the previously war-torn Former Yugoslavia. The books addresses themes such as the Concentration Camps after World War II, the meaning of democracy in Yugoslavia and the role of Tito, the reactions of the authorities on the emerging Kosovo crisis. The book also has modules on the position of Women and on the role and impact of sport, cinema and tourism in this period. The project also created a DVD and a website for historians and history educators in the region.
