School History on the Move. Changes in the Learning and Teaching of History in the Decade of Educational Reforms.

This years annual EUROCLIO Professional Development Conference took place in Bologna, Italy, from March 25st till the 30th at the Castel San Pietro. It was hosted by ‘ Clio’92 , the Association of Research Groups on History Teaching and Learning’  in association with the University of Bologna . This year’s theme was 'School History on the Move. Changes in the Learning and Teaching of History in the Decade of Educational Reforms.' The aims of the conference were to investigate to what extent the changes that are taking place all over Europe are parallel changes, to discuss the role of history and history teaching in the society (re-)forming processes that are going on, and to develop new teaching methods that are in better correspondence with the new demands of history teaching. 195 people from 39 countries traveled to the beautiful city of Bologna to successfully participate in discussions and workshops. The programme offered the participants an interesting combination of workshops, lectures by professors and professionals in the field, discussion groups and visits to historical places. The highlights for the participants were the very interactive workshops and study visit to the city of Ravenna. Overall, the conference in Bologna was big success!
