Teaching Materials

Together with its member organisation EUROCLIO has published many innovative materials varying from teacher trainer manuals to resource books and textbooks that can be implemented directly in the classroom. All the published material is also made available online.

Ofsted, the independent English Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills publishes aalt number of subject surveys every year. They look at developments in a specific subject over the previous three years, based on specialist inspectors’ visits to a range of schools. Recently a resource has been put together to help teachers in primary and secondary schools improve teaching and learning by reflecting on the main messages from the history report, History for all, published in March 2011.The packs can be previewed on  , and viewed in full screen or downloaded as PowerPoint files for presentation. The report History for all, evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of history in primary and secondary schools in England. It is based principally on evidence from inspections of history between April 2007 and March 2010 in 166 maintained schools in England. Part A focuses on the key inspection findings in the context of rising standards since the previous report in 2007. Part B discusses some of the key issues facing history teachers and describes the essential components of effective learning in history. Both parts of the report give examples of good practice.

2012: Innovative History Education - Exemplar Activities

Innovative History Teaching – Exemplar Lessons, which includes 34 lessons. All lessons are connected to different curriculum topics, as well learning outcomes. They are categorised in four categories: (1) Multiperspectivity, (2) Controversial Issues, (3) Critical Thinking and (4) Creative Thinking. These 34 lesson modules are all based on referenced sources as evidence, and work towards a deeper students understanding of multiperspectivity. This material was developed over the course of three years, involving over 170 History Educators from all regions of Turkey. It was developed during the EUROCLIO/Matra Project A Key to Europe - Innovative Methodology in Turkish School History.
