International Students of History Association

The International Students of History Association, ISHA, was founded in 1989 as an international, academic, non-profit, independent network of students and recent graduates interested in history and related sciences. The activity of ISHA has social and academic motivations. ISHA is committed to encouraging international co-operation and understanding through a more objective and tolerant study of history. ISHA seeks to create and co-ordinate means of co-operation and exchange between history students and young people of all backgrounds.

EUROCLIO partner, ISHA would like to inform you of their upcoming Annual Conference 2012, themed:

'Identities in Transition’

 

The 2012 annual conference of the International Students of History Association will take place in Jena, Germany. From the 2nd until the 8th of April history students from all over Europe will gather to talk about history, learn from each other, experience Jena and have fun! The theme of the conference will be ‘Identities in Transition’. All history students are welcome to join; the application period will be from the 13th until the 17th of February. The International Students of History Association, partner of Euroclio, would like to introduce the new International Board 2011-2012. From August 1st and onwards, four history students from The Netherlands, Finland and Slovenia will be leading this international association for history students (currently in 22 European countries) to provide easy accessible opportunities for international exchange. In doing this ISHA pursues better understanding of each other, each others culture and history, and each others history teaching methods. The new International Board of ISHA 2011-2012 consists of: Stephanie Bakker (Utrecht), President; Jernej Kotar (Ljubljana), Vice-President; Sanna Hellstedt (Helsinki), Secretary; Frerik Kampman (Utrecht), Treasurer. The International Board will be assisted by a Council, an Editorial Board, a Treasury Committee and a Webmaster, consisting of ISHA members from Italy, The Netherlands, Iceland, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland and Slovenia. In the academic year 2011-2012 the partnership with Euroclio continues, as well as other acitivities like seminars, an annual conference in Jena and a publication of the ISHA Journal 'Carnival'.

In August the five-yearly International Congress of Historical Sciences will take place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. During this event the International Students of History Association is also present, hosting two sessions called ‘The Historians’ Toolkit Sessions’. The members of ISHA are focusing on the future of historians and their subject. On Wednesday 25 August (14:00-17:00) and Thursday 26 August (09:00-13:00), you are invited to join these sessions and give your opinion about the influence of politics and economy on historical research, but also to talk about the advantages of internet and learn from the future generation of historians. Also, partner organizations such as Euroclio and Clioh-RES will shed their light on the phenomenon of historical networks. Have a look at the ISHA website and www.ichs2010.org for more information.
