The Albanian History Teachers Association was established on the 10th of December 1998 in Tirana, Albania. Nowadays, the Association has seventy active members as well as a well-established network of teachers all over the country. The Board of Association is represented of experienced history experts that are very active in the field of history teaching. The Albanian History Teachers Association has been a member of EUROCLIO for over 10 years and has participated in the Joint Stability Pact Project with the Bulgarian and Macedonian Project. It also collaborates with the UNESCO, the Institute of Education Development and the Ministry of Education and Science and other organisations in Albania.

The program “Albanian History” deals with the historic chorological developments that enable the creation of linkages between the different historical periods and the civic developments in Albania and societies in the world. It aims to facilitate students’ understanding of the present reality in Albania by clarifying that the civic improvement in Albania is a progressive continuation of the previous historic development. Time and historical change are the core elements of interest as they are the key aspect in the human development. The main aspect of this program is based on the understanding that Albanian history should be analyzed though exploring and re-assessing of what has already been written, as studying and writing of history is a very dynamic process and the new facts and developments may lead to new understandings. The programme gives students opportunity to work with facts and formulate opinion, as well as the opportunity to ‘taste’ the historians’ work through participation in the research study. Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights in Albania

The new Albanian reality, which is a testimony of a dynamic economic, social and cultural transformation, has put the individual and education in new relationship. Society is not only generating new options for the individual to develop but is also charging everyone with more responsibilities. Education is facing new perspectives; its old mission to train future citizen is presently considered as multiple folded. Democratic citizenship education is expected to play e crucial role. The new civics curriculum is in line with the philosophy of the present situation and challenges of the future. School is adopting the strategy of training citizen capable of exerting their civil responsibilities and freedoms, capable of making their contribution to further spiritual emancipation, social and material development of society. The already changed Albanian society, the perspective of living together, lay down the necessity for new knowledge, values and skills.
